...Peter van Janicki’s vivid, futuristic-looking paintings and collages are seemingly original - haunting and provocative and extremely accomplished. The paintings, which are terrific, dappled chords of geometric color, depict people -- or possibly cyborgs, there is such a mechanical to them - whose faces and bodies get suddenly interrupted by scabs of flesh-like impasto. The effect is a stunning. Usually the people are sitting or standing at tables, eating or drinking in apartments or suburban bars. The paintings scream with vibrant color, but there is sterility and loneliness of the human experience expressed on the canvas that is both haunting and poignant...
